Races & Anthropology

Races & Anthropology

Races are wide and varied for humanoids and span the globe in various ways, with various civilizations, various remote villages and tribes and all manner of ways in between. They are spread throughout the surface of Al'Akwannon and various parts of the Underdark. Additionally, the Picis are aquatic based as well as mermen and other aquatic humanoids that are not deeply explored or understood. That said, this section looks to focus on playable character races (though execeptions can be considered based on conversations with the DM for a particular game) with a nod to other racial distributions that can be found in any concentration. Other elements can be covered or mentioned here based on what was discovered during a campaign, even when normally the footprint mentioned would not be large enough to otherwise be more than simply a footnote. Additionally, the focus here is on the Prime dimension and there are other beings that have developed in other places (chaos, the Abyss, the Ethereal plane, etc.) These references are not made to limit things, but rather to give a sense of what are well known parts of the world, unique (but discovered) parts and help players come up with their own racial concepts that fit Al'Akwannon or find a niche that allows them to be unique while fitting into the overall world design.

Below links and sections cover information on playable races and the various meta-game elements that will impact your character build based on which race is chosen. Beyond that, there is information on a variety of other, generally non-playable, races and special beings with a significant "footprint" on the world, such as vampires and werewolves; in addition there are various racial histories, information on various countries, kingdoms and empires along with historical events related to races and the various cultures and societies that exist in different regions and continents. As with all things as expansive as this, not everything has been fully fleshed out for the world. Generally, each game helps to further determine elements related to a race, history of a kingdom, etc. some times at a level of relative minutia and sometimes at a level very broad and overarching. When such things are not fully developed feel free to discuss with the DM the viability of developing an area to better suit your character concept and work with them to develop the right historical elements and conditions to reflect things you are looking to roleplay in game.
