the Great North

the Great North

Seven Nordic Kingdoms make up the sub-region generally referred to as the Western Great North. These kingdoms generally replicate Scandinavian and Teutonic cultures in our own world. The kingdoms themselves are generally have some tie to Viking/Norse, early Vandals, Angles and Saxon type cultures including various of the early Germanic tribes of the West Reich. In this portion Al’Akwannon you will find I have blended various traits and characteristics from these societies from as early as the Iron Age through Classical Antiquity and beyond

the Northern Kingdoms

  • Kaltesvard & the Fjordlands - Formerly one large kingdom under the leadership of the most powerful of the Norlan generals of the Great Army and his immediate descendants. The kingdom was eventually separated into a pair of kingdoms amicably under two vying for the role of koningur roughly two and half centuries before the Age of Darkness. Both follow a very nordic style of leadership reflecting two slightly differing flavors of Viking style order. Kaltesvard, the slightly more prominent of the two, is #75 and the Fjordlands is #74.

the Southern Kingdoms

  • Pheralon & Balconis - The Pheralon is #70 and Balconis is #51.

Other Great North Countries

  • Thelgar - Land of the Fenni, the reindeer people of the far north. Less a political entity than a border respected by the Norlan kings of the south after a savage beatdown lead by a shaman priest and his antler wearing warriors. The "country" instead is generally various clans of nomad hunters and gatherers who move with their reindeer herds throughout the north with their own family rules. Only uniting when pressed, which has never happened again since the first time over 7 centuries ago. Thelgar is #64 on the global map.

  • Ice Kingdom - the northern kingdom of the Dwarves, or as the Norlans call them, the Dverg. Technically the second most powerful dwarven kingdom behind Silverlode, the Ice Kingdom has a strong presence of merchants and tradesmen, but like other dwarven kingdoms, most of the dwarves live within the main mountain in a subterranean city. Dwarves are generally well respected in this part of the world as master craftsmen and fair trading, expert merchants. The Ice Kingdom is #49 on the global map.
