Prime Almanac

Prime Almanac

The Prime Almanac is a repository of all documented political and geographic entities of Al'Akwannon. That said there are large numbers of areas merely fleshed out or without a well written description, so as new campaigns happen or time permits, more information will appear. That said, for the first time ever, the endeavor will be to post anything, even incomplete things, to help people understand various aspects of the world for the establishment of character concepts, character histories and other things. This will include information about regions of the world, maps (both associated to area posts as well as part of a map repository), major mountains and mountain ranges, seas, oceans, major or famous rivers and other major geographic information. This data is focused on what is known as the Prime Material plane, where most games will occur. If you are looking for maps or information on the outer or inner dimensions, refer to the Deities & Cosmology section.

Global Map

Below is the global map of the Prime Material plane of Al'Akwannon comprised of an eastern and western continent (occidental and oriental). In general the two major continents do not interact with each other and only people of great power, knowledge, magic and other things are even aware of such things. These maps are "rough" and generally show the locations and countries of Al'Akwannon, but do not contain all details on things like coastal islands, intricacies of coastlines, river tributaries and confluences and a variety of geographic features that are generally fleshed out during campaigns using the area in question. In these cases, more details will be found on more localized maps.

The below PDF is the map key for the above map

Regional Overview

While there are a myriad of borderlands between these major regions there are several areas that follow a relatable "Earth" theme, these are some of the major regions and what you can expect within. Within these general regions, there are multiple territories (countries, kingdoms, etc.) Each territory is identified by the number on the global map. In most cases some overview of what the area or region is like as well as unique elements that have been a part of a past campaign or story are mentioned in the write up. Generally these broad regions are the areas where economic elements apply for the entire region based on what is found in the Economics document. Keep in mind that, as within the real world, borders are not always black and white but in an effort not to persistently be redrawing maps, some of these fluctuations must simply be addressed within the context of a campaign or other setting. Occasionally changes may happen that will be reflected on a regional map (as it is unlikely I'll redraw the global map any time soon!)

Central Al'Akwannon

Also known as the Sunken Sea region, the Central area of western Al'Akwannon surrounds the sea and is thought of as the cradle of civilization. The areas predominately have a sort of "romance language" feel to them, with a French/Gaulish vibe in the east (Isengrim and Cirdan), a Spain/Italy vibe in the west and a more Roman feel to the south. Additionally, the central area is where six of the seven "mega-cities" are located, cities with "insanely" large populations of several hundred thousand to a million residents, magically enchanted highways between them and for four of the cities, massive enchanted walls surrounding cities with over 100 mile circumference.

Torosia

Effectively a small continent (roughtly similar land mass to Austrailia, but far more lush) and comprises what would generally be considered the African countries. As such, there are a couple which reflect an Egyptian/North African vibe, some with more East African or West African vibes and an area that reflects some of the desert/arid areas (mostly similar to the Namib, rather than the Sahara.) Also of special note, the country of Gyantana, which takes on a vibe similar to Uganda in look and feel.

the Great North

The Western Great North can mostly be represented by Scandinavian equivalents, vikings, norsemen, the reindeer people (known as the Fenni, but similar to the Sami culture) and other things. Additionally the second most powerful dwarven kingdom is here and their merchants are well integrated with all of the surrounding countries and generally well respected. The more southern countries have more of an Anglo-Saxon flavor to them, but all trace their lineages back to the Norlan settlers. More info is detailed info in the PDF below

Far West

A somewhat Germanic flavored area (especially Bavarian) but there are major elven and other fey presences here that affect the overall characteristics of the region. Lands predominately populated by fleeing fey folk (though most were destined for the furthest reaches of the west and what is now known as the Fey Kingdoms), retired soldiers of the Great Army after its disbanding and various wandering bands. Now various territories, most with a style that reflects the feel of medieval Bavaria, Switzerland, etc. and also nearby, the realm of the Avariel, aka - the Winged Folk (though they are considered not part of the Far West region, but rather an unaffiliated entity.)

Fey Kingdoms

An area dominated by fey creatures, elves, half-elves and humans with a strong Gaelic/Celtic flavor. Initially founded by elves who fled Lothlorien during the Age of Wars, the area also became home to centaurs who were nearly made extinct during the age. From this spawned a good number of half-elves and humans who adoped the Gaelic/Celtic ways of the fey and have become part of their social fabric now. There are now a few kingdoms led by elves, a few led by humans and the Forest of Rynd, led by a collective of the two and swearing fealty to the Millennium Tree, the second oldest sentient tree of magic on the planet.

Deep North

Within the Deep North, there are three distinct areas; centrally the Tsardoms which are a cossack/Russian styled area, in the east and south are the Khanates, two separate political entities that have split off from the descendants of the Great Khan of the Hordelands to the south, and finally the lands of the giants, realms where ogres and half-ogres are plenty and real giants have been seen from time to time. While the giant areas are some times thought of more in the category of unaffiliated lands, they tend to be aligned with the other Deep North entities. With changes of the Age of Chaos, there are possibly things that will affect behavior of the Giantlands now that giants are more prevalent and less merely legend. Some additional info on the Tsardoms below.

the Hordelands

Dozens of warlords who could be united under the first born descendant of the Great Khan (though this could only be done if a new Great Khan emerged...many have tried, all have failed.) Thus the realm is held together by strong khans who each lead their respective standing armies to maintain control, piece by piece, of roughly 75% of the former full extent of control by the Horde. It should be noted, the other 25% belongs to descendents of two of the Great Khan's eldests sons and formidable warriors in their own right. However, these political entities now fall under the regional overview of the Deep North (though who knows what would happen if the Horde was challenged or reunited.)

the Far East
an area that is relatable to Indian and Bengali empires of the past on Earth

Unclaimed Unaffiliated and Ungoverned Lands

Throughout the globe, there are various lands that do not truly fall under the domain of the regions surrounding them. Some are unique political entities, others realms directly under the influence of a demi-god or other extreme/unique power, still others simply anomalies or other entities somehow staunchly resisting the overall influence or flavor of the region that surrounds them. These areas are outlined in this section, but are far flung all over the globe.

the Southwest Peninsula

a vast area with three predominate parts, the Sythian Watch on the northern edge (an area that reflects a sort of Phonecian/Hittite element of Earth's history), an area comprised of various Mayan/Aztec/Incan styled countries in the center and a Polynesian flavored area in the southernmost tip
